Back to Basics- The Classic Essentials

I suggest buying classy not trendy. Classic pieces never go out of style. A few staples in your wardrobe can go a long way. These pieces will be able to mix and match with each other making dressing easier. Some items to focus on first would be heels, a pair of pants, skirt, jacket, cardigan, blouse and button down collared shirt. Everyone is a different size and can have their own twist on style; some can wear heels, some may want to make that a nice pair of flats. I understand that and will go into more detail later of what I pick for myself and what to look for when you are buying, but for a general idea I'm starting with just the basic pieces.  To begin I suggest starting with neutral colors to build your base.  Think black, gray, ivory, white, light blue, camel.

There are many reasons I picked the above links to show as examples. Some are that I personally wear these brands and found the quality is great and long lasting, the fit matches me perfectly, the cuts are timeless and classy.  Everyone will have their own preference on brand, but sticking with these cuts will be flattering on anyone.  This is the beginning of starting your work wardrobe.  I suggest cleaning out your closet and dresser drawers to start fresh.  You may already have some of these pieces.  Clean out anything you have not worn in a long time.  When I go through my stuff I like to donate or somethings I can sell on ebay to use towards a new piece I want. Once ready to start shopping, my tip would be to look for a sale or online discount!  Currently www.anntaylor.com has Buy Any Full-Price Top or Sweater, Get the Second 50% Off + Free Shipping on Orders Over $150.
